Cupra Marittima

Nestled between gentle rolling hills, Cupra Marittima — home to around 5,500 residents — overlooks the Riviera delle Palme and its wide, sandy beaches. Fine golden sand and pleasantly warm waters make the shore ideal for long walks, refreshing swims or simply basking in the sunshine.

In the town centre, you’ll find everything you need — from a pharmacy and an excellent bakery to clothing and shoe shops, as well as two bicycle rental stations.

The town unfolds in two distinct parts:

The historic hilltop village of Cupra Alta (formerly Marano), with its castle and medieval walls
The coastal area, defined by its long sandy beach, charming bars and cafés, and a spacious seaside promenade.

Northwest of the present centre lie the evocative remains of an ancient Roman settlement, including a forum and a temple dating back to the time of Emperor Hadrian in the 1st century AD, believed to have been dedicated to the goddess Cupra.

Sea, relaxation, and culture

Cupra Marittima is perfect for those who appreciate the gentle charm of an intimate Italian seaside town. The pedestrian zone, cosy bars and traditional restaurants invite you to slow down and savour each moment — there is always time for a coffee or an aperitivo by the sea.

Culture and history are never far away. Visit the fascinating Malacological Museum (www.malacologia.org), one of the world’s largest collections of shells and marine treasures, or stroll up to Cupra Alta, where picturesque lanes and sweeping views reward every step.

Cupra is also well connected: the train station links the town with Ancona and other Adriatic destinations, and a daily bus travels to Rome. Cyclists can follow the 14 km coastal bike path from Cupra Marittima to San Benedetto del Tronto — a delightful ride between palm trees and the sparkling sea.
